No arrests as police probe melee at Beef Jerky mall store - Times Union

GUILDERLAND – Police are investigating a wild Christmas Eve brawl at The Beef Jerky Outlet store at Crossgates Mall — one that's gone viral.

A dispatcher with the department said on Christmas Day that police had not made any arrests.

A 24-second snippet of the chaotic fight, posted on social media, shows at least a dozen combatants, some with hoods pulled over their heads, with fists flying and items being knocked off  wall displays and on a table near the entrance that is overturned during the melee.

During the melee it didn't appear that there were any customers in the store, and the efforts of  two employees in red to break up the battle proved futile.

The online video of the brawl, which appears to start directly outside and then spills inside the store, had been viewed by upwards of 2 million people on Twitter by Wednesday night.

Ryan Clemons, who posted the video to his @GlockRivers Twitter account, said Wednesday that the same group of guys got into an altercation outside another store in the mall not long before their beef ended up at The Beef Jerky Outlet.

Clemons said he saw at least three mall security guards who were calling for help but didn't attempt to intervene.

He estimated that the fight came to an end about 10 seconds after he stopped filming and that the youngsters ran off before police arrived.

The Beef Jerky franchise, which had its first store open in the Capital Region in 2017, is devoted to the high protein snack food. The store's website says it carries 100 varieties of the dried meat product from mild to wild as well as  gourmet sauces, seasonings and marinades.

Crossgates Mall was closed Christmas Day.
